Hi, I’m Dr Peter Ferrar and I’m thrilled to be the principal of Totara College in Dannevirke. Totara is a special school and a local hidden gem. We currently have a full roll of 75 students and over 20 staff, so the class sizes are small and education is individualised and student centred. We certainly punch above our weight in terms of the education we provide and I’m proud to be here.
We have subject specialist teachers in many areas (e.g. science, history, engineering, woodwork, food technology, English, French, careers etc), good sized grounds and well-resourced classrooms. The school is very safe and caring and we cater for students from Year 0-13 (5 to 18 year olds). We have a Christian flavour and teach our students good character through the lens of our 4 values: Kindness, Respect, Integrity and Diligence. We offer a modern education which increasingly is focused on students growing in their own skills and talents to become effective citizens who are well equipped to face the world.
