Enrolment at Totara College

Our school is a real gem in Dannevirke and we can see why you would want to enrol your kids here. There’s a bit of a process so we’ve tried to streamline it and explain it on this page.

For the school we have a few things you’ll need to advise us of, which is normal in any school. They include giving us your details, emergency details, health difficulties, learning difficulties, NZ citizenship or permanent residency status evidence, previous school or Early Childhood Centre reports, immunisation reports etc.  You’ll also need to sign to a few things such as behaviour, IT acceptable use and uniform standards policies.

Since we are a state integrated school, our proprietors have categories of enrolment based on your connection to our special character. The names come form the integration act between the Ministry of Education and the proprietor (The Hub church in Dannevirke).

1. Preference enrolment with a particular connection to the Christian special character – this is where your church leader signs a form to confirm you are a regular member. This is the easy route into the school.
2. If you’re not a church attender, but still wish to have our Christian education for your child, there is also a preference enrolment with a general connection to the Christian special character route. In this, you have to sign your support to our key messages and attend a short course about what we will teach your children in terms of God, Jesus and the bible.
3. Non-preference – this is where you sign that you are comfortable with your children learning about our Christian special character even though you do not necessarily follow these ways yourself. Non-preference placements are limited to 10% of our roll.

Yes there is quite a bit of information here, but the good news is that once you enrol in Totara, you never need to find another school (unless you are unhappy – in which case, come and tell us – we may need to up our game in an area and we are very willing to do so).

2027 Enrolment Cut-Off Date

Totara College is currently experiencing significant pressure for places within our maximum roll of 75 students. As a result, we are receiving more enrolment enquiries than we have available places for the 2027 school year.

To help us manage enrolments fairly and effectively, we have introduced an enrolment cut-off date for 2027.

This notice is to inform families that the cut-off date for being considered for enrolment of your child at Totara College for the beginning of the 2027 school year is Monday, 7 September 2026.

We appreciate your understanding as we manage enrolments within our approved maximum roll.
